Pieces ‘N’ Patches Membership Meeting

 

President Marguerite Steiner called the membership meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.  There were approximately 38 members in attendance.

 

Treasurer Janet Noble reported a current balance of $3034.27   Janet also stated that the bank would collect a monthly fee if our account falls below $2000.00. It was suggested that a new bank be located in hopes of solving this problem.

 

Vice-president Jeanette Strickert  opened the floor for discussion regarding changes to our meeting schedules.  Her suggestion was to 1. Change all meetings to begin at 10:00 a.m to eliminate the confusion about time. 2. Make the meeting on the first Monday to be the program, lunch and workshop.  The third Monday meeting would be reserved for “free” sew time and/or community project sew day.  The fifth Monday would be eliminated.   There were numerous suggestions and discussion from the members.  A motion was made to first vote on just a time change to 10:00 a.m. for all meetings.  The vote was passed.  Then a motion was made to vote to leave the meeting agendas as they are currently and that was also passed.  All meetings will now begin at 10:00 a.m.  The first Monday meeting will remain as a program/lecture meeting.  The third Monday meeting will be reserved for workshop/classes and “free” sewing. 

 

July 19 will be the Trash to Treasure sale day, potluck lunch and installation of the new officers and board members.  Those wishing to sell their items may come as early as 9:30 for set-up, sales to begin at 10:00 with all participants responsible for their own items/sales.  Lunch will be at noon followed by the membership meeting.

 

The program was presented by Judy Wampler on “Little House quilts” – a very educational and entertaining program.

Pieces ‘N’ Patches Membership Meeting

 

President Marguerite Steiner called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.  There were two guests present, Carolyn Mills from Houston and Marilyn Hutton from Colorado.

 

The new Board nominees were announced:

 

President – Jeannette Strickert

Vice-Presidents – Barbi McPhee and Grace Grame

Treasurer- Janet Noble

Secretary- Suzie Johnson

 

Mary Schopp and June Hansen made the motions to accept this board.  Board is passed.

 

The possibility of changing the monthly meeting format was discussed.  It was suggested starting the meeting on the 1^st Monday at 10:00 a.m. with the speaker/program, followed by lunch and then workshop.  The 3^rd Monday would become a workday – for special projects or individual sewing time. The occasional 5^th Monday would be disbanded.  A vote to accept this change will be presented at the June membership meeting. If approved this change would go into effect with the August 2010 meeting.

 

July 19^th will be the annual luncheon and Trash to Treasure sale.  The type of meal was discussed – the suggestion was 1. Catered, 2. PNP to provide a main entrée, or 3. A potluck.  A vote was taken and the potluck meal was approved. All members will bring a dish to share and they may bring their own table service if they wish.

 

Treasurer’s report:  $249.21 was spent last month leaving a balance of $3318.99.

 

Upcoming programs will be – June 7^th is Judy Wampler with her program on “Laura Ingalls Wilder quilts – from Minnesota to Missouri”.   June 21^st Marilyn Gore will do a workshop with the Accucut machine; kits will be cut for baby quilts.

 

Barbara Engler made an announcement regarding retreats in Branson, Mo.

Wichita (KS) quilt show will be June 24-27. 

There will not be a 5^th Monday meeting in May due to the holiday.

 

Judy Schoeny presented a trunk show program and will teach a table runner workshop at the May 17^th meeting.

Pieces ‘N’ Patches Membership Meeting 

President Marguerite Steiner called the April meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.

Membership reported 2 guests today, Judy Taylor, owner of the new quilt shop “Lonesome Pines Quilt Shop” in Elkins, AR, and Donna Norden. 

Donna Roche announced that her sister and member of PNP, Peg Mesman, recently lost her husband.  Our prayers and sympathy go out to their families for their loss. 

All members who participated in the Quilts of Valor workshop the previous week were thanked for all their work.  Six or seven quilts were started and some tops completed.  To date, Donna Roche has mailed 584 quilts.  The next Quilt of Valor workshop will be held on April 28^th at Sager Creek quilt shop.  Please reserve your place by contacting Donna.  

Rosie Davis, V.P of Community Outreach has resigned her position due to health concerns.   

V.P. Jeannette Strickert and President Steiner plan to attend the Heartland Quilt Network’s annual meeting in Kansas this weekend.  The Board approved the payment of the membership fee of $20 as well as registration fee of $10 for each to attend. 

It was suggested the club might help with sewing cancer “bags or pockets” for mastectomy patients.  The directions for sewing will be posted on the blog.  

Donna Roche made a motion that the club purchase several large rolls of ribbon, motion was seconded by Barbara Hancock and approved by the membership. 

A thank-you note from Tony Munoz was read. He has requested pictures of the quilts from his Bargello workshop.  His email is mr_em48@hotmail.com. 

The Board has approved an amendment to the Pieces ‘N’ Patches By-laws to state the we will not hold any meetings or workshops if the Rogers School District is closed due to inclement weather. 

Judy Schoeny will present a program in May on Machine Embroidery.  She will be teaching a tablerunner for her workshop; it will require 3 fat quarters and does not need to include machine embroidery.  

Marguerite stated she has been unable to send pictures to Carla Gay to be posted on the blog and will submit them to her on a disk.

Karen Ashley will be passing around a sign-up sheet for refreshments and luncheons.

Members are encouraged to sign-up for workshops so the teachers will be able to better prepare for their classes.

Again, name tags are encouraged, especially by a special door prize drawing.

Reminders – Calico Cut-ups Quilt show will be Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10 at St. Bernards Church in Bella Vista.  The next Quilt Congress will be held Sept. 17 and 18, sponsored by Q.U.I.L.T. and Dogwood quilt groups.  Speakers will be Paula Stoddard and Lola Jenkins.

Janet Noble reported that the treasury has a balance of $3568.20.

Member Barbi McPhee today presented the program.  She presented a showing of her embroidery work and quilts and spoke of the “immortality” of our quilting/needlework. She emphasized labeling and documenting for future generations.

Pieces ‘N Patches Membership Meeting

 

President Marguerite Steiner called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.

 

Pres. Steiner reminded us to keep wearing our nametags; it helps everyone get better acquainted.  It was stated that VP Rosie Davis might be moving to California.  There is still a need for volunteers to bring snacks for the April 5^th meeting.  The community service workdays March 15 and March 29 will be sack lunches for those participating.

 

Guest Kathy Haynes from Springfield, Mo. brought fliers from the Round Bobbin Expo. to be held in Springfield in April.  She also brought their beautiful “Opportunity” Quilt.

 

The Annual Spring Fling Shop Hop will take place March 25, 26 and 27.  Calico Cut-ups Quilt Guild will present their biannual Quilt Show at St. Bernards Church in Bella Vista on April 9 and 10. 

 

Barbara Engler announced that there will be several retreats held in Branson, Mo.  She can be contacted for further information.

 

Tony Munoz of Parsons, Ks. was introduced as our speaker and also our teacher for the afternoon workshop.

Pieces ‘N Patches Membership Meeting

 

 

Vice-President Jeannette Strickert called the February meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. 

 

The January meeting minutes were approved.  Janet Noble presented the treasurers report.  There is a current balance of $4333.34 in the treasury – that was approved by the membership.   It has been suggested that all members wear name badges to help everyone get better acquainted, especially with any new members and guests.  The recent death of long-time local quilter Corrinne Shipman was announced.   An apology was made for the last minute cancellation of the February 1^st meeting.  In the future, if the Rogers School District cancels schools because of inclement weather then there will not be a PNP meeting.   March 1^st will be a program and workshop by Tony Munoz. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a presentation from Mr. Munoz at 11:00, followed by lunch and then Mr. Munoz will teach his “Twisted Bargello” technique at 1:00 p.m.  All members planning to take the workshop are encouraged to come before 10:00 and help set up the sewing area.

 

Membership – Linda Box was our only guest/new member today.

 

Hospitality – Karen Ashley suggested those attending the community workshops on March 15^th and 29^th should bring their own lunches.  She asked for an additional volunteer to bring an entrée for the February 15 lunch.

 

Miscellaneous – the Calico Cut-ups Guild will have their quilt show April 9^th and 10^th.  More information will be available at a later date or you may check their website, www.calicocutups.org.  The Pieces 'N Patches program on June 7^th will be presented by Judy Wampler on “Laura Ingall’s” quilts.  Springfield, Mo. will be holding an “Expo” from April 8 to 10^th.  Check the website www.roundbobbin.com for more information.

 

Our own Barbara Engler presented a trunk show of her quilts and then taught a workshop on Cutwork Appliqué.

January 18, 2010 -- Membership Meeting Minutes

President Marguerite Steiner called the January meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.  

Treasurer’s report – the December auction made a total of $2314.00.   $166.00 came from the baked goods.  The current balance is $4636.82.   $150.00 will be donated to the church as a Christmas gift to be used as they see fit.  

 

Vice-presidents report --- the February 1^st meeting with be a program by Barbara Engler on Applique.  Barbara will teach an Appliqué workshop on Feb. 15^th.   On March 1^st the meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a program by Tony Munoz.  Following lunch, Mr. Munoz will teach a workshop on his “Twisted Bargello” quilt.  There will be sign-up sheets for both workshops.  Helen Hefner has volunteered to bring her Twisted Bargello quilt for all to see. 

Hospitality – more volunteers are needed for refreshments, sign up sheets are available with Karen Ashley. 

Membership – All members need to pick up their new directory from Anita Young. Today’s guests became new members; they were  Charlotte Ralston, Carol Kellner, Helen Hefner, Diane Crandell, and Patsy Aaron-Woodard.  

Miscellaneous – Marguerite informed the members that she had discovered (from reading old PNP records) that this is the 30^th anniversary of this group.  She felt we should try to do something to celebrate and she’d welcome any suggestions.   

Mary Elizabeth Schopp of The Rabbit’s Lair quilt shop presented a program on how she became a quilt shop owner and the “fun” of the business.  She kept everyone well entertained.  Thanks also to Mary for providing all with a fat 1/8^th of fabric.

November 2, 2009

Pieces ‘n Patches Membership Meeting

The November 2 meeting of Pieces & Patches was called to order at 1:00 by Marguerite Steiner.  

One guest, Sandra Pritchard and a renewing member, Pearl Schliep were introduced.  We now have 77 members.

A request for volunteers for the Hospitality committee was answered by Merilyn Davis and Barb Hancock.  

Doree Rice explained about the baskets for the Christmas auction.

Grace Grame passed out sign up sheets for baked goods for the Bake Sale silent auction.  

Tony Munoz has been confirmed for the March meeting.  He will present his lecture "One Man's Viewpoint of the Quilting World" and will hold a workshop in the afternoon on his "Twisted Bargello". 

Toni Fenton's grandchild had surgery on Tuesday. 

A beautiful applique quilt was shown in memorial of Edie Idleman.  Raffe tickets were on sale for $1 with proceeds going to quilt study at the University of Nebraska. 

The program was a trunk show by Carole Steitz.

October 5, 2009

Pieces ‘N Patches Membership Meeting

President Marguerite Steiner called the meeting to order.

Membership Committee:  Members are reminded that it’s time to renew memberships at $20 for the year.  Please pay Anita Young as soon as possible.  As of today there are 68 members paid.  There were 6 guests present today.  Cloetta Hudson and Mary Jean Creech are friends of Loneta Blevins and came to see her quilts.  Our other guests were Betty Pardue, Janette Kitchen, Barbara Roberts, and Kelly Roberts. 

Treasurer's report:  Janet Noble announced that our current balance is $2,624.00.

Hospitality Committee:  Karen Ashley thanked all that brought the refreshments today.

Christmas auction/fundraiser:  This year the board has chosen to restrict the auction to “like new” items – these items could be grouped in baskets, totes, etc.  Doree Rice is in charge of the baskets and would like to be notified of what type basket you or your group will be donating.  Other items for auction will be (hopefully) quilts, table runners, wall hangings, quilted purses or totes, etc.  Grace Grame will be in charge of the baked goods and they will be offered as a “Silent” auction.    If anyone would like some cellophane wrap or netting to use for their baskets, Marguerite Steiner has some available.

Programs and workshops: Grace Grame will be doing a workshop for us on Oct. 19 on pattern drafting – those interested need to bring a ruler (preferably a thin plastic drafting ruler) and pencil.

Community Service:  Donna Roche read letters she has received thanking everyone for the Quilts of Valor.  To date she has sent 449 quilts.  November 30 will be the next Quilts of Valor workday.  There are two websites of possible  interest:  www.tearsofawarrior.com and www.QOVF.org .   Mary Schopp was thanked for her donation of fabric for the workshop.

Loneta Blevins was introduced as our speaker today – she entertained us with stories of her youth and all her many, many beautiful quilts.

Pieces ‘N’ Patches Membership Meeting

 

 

President Marguerite Steiner called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.

 

Membership Committee: We had two guests today.

 

Board notes:  The board met earlier this month and discussed the upcoming December auction.  It was decided that this years auction would consist of  “new” items included in “themed baskets”, as well as table runners, wall hangings, small quilts, and baked goods, etc.  No “garage sale” items this year.  Doree Rice will be in charge of the baskets, she needs to know how many and what kind will be donated.  All items, except the food, should be brought to any meeting in November.

 

Hospitality Committee: Karen Ashley needs refreshments for the October 5^th meeting and the Nov. 30^th workday.  Sign up for refreshments is needed so please check the sign-up list.

 

Community Service:   November 30, 2009 will be a workday for the Quilts of Valor.

 

Misc. information:

 

Our December meeting will start at 11:00 a.m. with a potluck luncheon followed by our auction/fund raiser.

 

Dorothy Day received “Honorable Mention” for her small quilt “Rover” at  The Alliance for American Quilts.  The quilt will be on display at the quilt show in Houston in October and then offered for auction. 

 

Darlene Szabo presented a program on long arm quilting.

August 3, 2009

Pieces ‘N Patches Membership Meeting

President Marguerite Steiner called the meeting to order.

Membership Committee:  Anita Young announced there were 2 guests and 3 new members with a total attendance of 56.  Guests included Jean Shimp and Jeanie Schneider.  Our new members are Barbara Ballestia, Mary Ellen Shorten, and Alice Scott.    Anita reminded us that it’s time to renew our membership; dues are $20 for the year.  She would also like to see us wear nametags to help us get better acquainted with each other.

Secretary’s report – There were no minutes taken at the July 20th luncheon and quilters flea market.

Treasurers’ report: Janet Noble announced the completion of the audit of the financial records for 2008-2009.  Auditors Stella Day and Diana K. Harshbarger found the records to be complete and accurate.  The current  balance is $2055.97.

Community Service: Donna Roche announced that to-date she has mailed 405 Quilts of Valor. She has 25 quilts in the process of being quilted.    She states that the Quilts of Valor need to measure at least 50” x 70”.   She also informed us that she has been invited to attend the Purple Heart Convention to witness the presentation of the Purple Heart quilts she made for that organization.  She also plans to set up a Quilts of Valor information booth at John Q. Hammons starting Tuesday, August 11, 2009. She would welcome any help.    Margie Langanke made a motion that Pieces ‘n Patches buy a roll of batting for the Q. of V. project.  The motion was approved by the membership.

Hospitality Committee:  Karen Ashley stated that more volunteers are needed to provide refreshments at each meeting.  She also asked that everyone help clean up her space at the end of the meeting.

Historian:  Carla Gay reported that she welcomes any recipes, pictures, etc., that you might want to share for the blog. 

Programs and workshops: Jeanette Strickert stated she has programs and workshops for the present until June 2010.  She could use some suggestions for more programs.    There is a workshop on Monday, August 17^th.  Karen Ashley will be teaching a jacket project.  Anyone not taking her class is welcome to work on nametags if they’d like.   Monday, August 31^st, is a “5^th” Monday for Community Outreach projects.  Baby quilts will be the focus of that day.  Everyone is welcome to come sew, press, etc.  Please bring any fabrics and/or patterns to make quilts. 

 

Misc. information:

Jeanette Strickert needs someone to head up the December Fundraiser/Auction. 

There is a quilt display from now until August 21st at the Peale Mansion in Bentonville.  Barbara McPhee has a quilt on display.

Paula Stoddard will have a quilt in the upcoming Sept. issue of Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine.   Congratulations Paula.

There was no other business. Anita Johnson was introduced as our speaker.  She presented her family’s history of quilts.  The meeting was adjourned after show and tell at 2:50 p.m.
