In the show and tell department, there were two beautiful Quilts of Valor made by Marguerite Steiner and the Caring Quilters group that meets at The Rabbits Lair, a gorgeous patriotic quilt made by Stella Day, and an adorable pineapple project made by Margie Langanke:

Applique Workshop by Barbara Hamernik

On November 17, it was the privilege of Pieces 'N Patches to have Barbara Hamernik from Bentonville lead a workshop on doing applique with Heat Resistant Templar (TM) and Perfect Circles (TM).   Barb is a very accomplished quilter and a wonderful teacher, too. 

 

 

Here is a glimpse into her workshop full of many eager students including Rheba Ford, Sandi Bernal and Kathy McCann (first photo), as well as Merilyn Davis, Linda Lundquist, Lynnette Struble and Cheryl Mitchell (second photo).

  

As an extra treat, Barb brought along a few of her applique works in progress.  As you can see, they are absolutely stunning!

The Answer to All Our "Ys"?...Pam Goggans!

We would just like to thank you Pam for your willingness to share your time and talent with us by giving such a wonderful lesson on "Y" seams and curves. I know several members, some of whom are new to quilting, learned a lot during that meeting and have gone home to practice what you taught! "Y" seams and curves have often been tauted as "bad guys" even by some seasoned quilters. Having seen just how easy they can be accomplished with the methods you used, I'm sure many more of us will be trying out these two techniques.

I think it's wonderful that some - if not all - of the "practice" blocks from your class will be put to good use in our Quilts of Valor! They will sure make beautiful quilts when they're all put together.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge with the group Pam. You are certainly appreciated by all of us!

Members are hard at work on their own projects, or trying out the techniques taught in class.

Many members took the opportunity to sign the beautiful quilt made for our dear friend Shirley. It was a wonderful joint effort by many members of the guild to show our love for her.

New member Anita works on a baby quilt for her granddaughter. We welcomed three new members to our guild this week.

Thank you Donna!!

I think we can easily call our workshop with Donna a huge success! There were approximately thirty of us who took her workshop and I know that I, for one, learned a lot. It's always great to learn new tips and tricks to make any technique easier and more enjoyable, and I think that was accomplished thanks to Donna. She was so well prepared that all we had to do was listen carefully and follow her easy instructions to find ourselves doing well with the hand-piecing. I think the pictures prove that everyone was having a good time and diving into the workshop with gusto! Again, thank you so much Donna for helping us all learn this wonderful, time-honored technique. Hopefully, with a little practice, we'll all be making beautiful hand-pieced quilts in the future.

Jibble & Bits Class by Carol Ann Wilbourn

On June 16 our club was lucky enough to have Carol Ann Wilbourn from North Little Rock come and give her "Jibbles & Bits" class, and she also showed some examples of her popular "Quilt by the Mile" technique.  Many thanks to member Betty Workman who hosted Carol Ann at her home for two nights and took her shopping at our local quilt shops.  Also, special thanks to Judy Vander Ham for taking the following photos.  Please note you may click on any photo to enlarge it.
